Blue Ridge Mountain Terrain

North Carolina is the Southeast's premier dirt bike destination. The Blue Ridge Mountains run through the western third of the state, providing elevation, technical terrain, and scenery that the coastal plain states simply can't match. If you're driving from anywhere east of the Mississippi, NC is usually the first mountain riding you hit heading west.

This guide covers 5 real, rideable trails across DuPont State Forest, Pisgah National Forest, the Robbinsville/Tail of the Dragon corridor, and the Morganton riding area. Every trail has conditions notes and difficulty ratings from actual riders.

Getting Started in NC

North Carolina's trails skew toward intermediate and expert riders. The best beginner-friendly terrain is in the Morganton area (Town Creek Trail System has marked beginner loops) or DuPont State Forest's lower-elevation doubletrack sections. If you're brand new, start with Town Creek's beginner loops before moving to the technical singletrack.
